RSHE/PSHE
At Hampstead Norreys and The Ilsleys Federation, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils can be the best that they can be!
Our pupils enjoy learning more about themselves, their community and the wider world around them. We encourage all of our pupils to be active citizens within their community and encourage them to develop their understanding of others. Our pupils enjoy learning about a wide range of PSHE topics, including internet safety, first aid for UKS2, RSE and anti-bullying work.
PSHE happens weekly in every class in our school. At Hampstead Norreys and The Ilsleys, we use a programme called Jigsaw which has a mindful approach to PSHE. There are six ‘jigsaw pieces’ (half termly units) designed so that each class studies the same theme at the same time at their own age-appropriate level. The puzzles are sequential and developmental throughout each school year.
Here are the six ‘jigsaw pieces’:
- Being me in my world
- Celebrating difference and anti-bullying
- Dreams and Goals
- Healthy me
- Relationships
- Changing me
Additionally and periodically through the school year, we have other PSHE events, including Remembrance services, Internet Safety Day, Anti-Bullying Week and Harvest where food is donated to the local food bank. Our pupils are committed to helping others and this is demonstrated through various charity events that they organise themselves, including a recent Christmas Jumper Sale and a bake sale.
We are incredibly proud of our Anti-Bullying ambassadors. They are the first point of contact for pupils when there are friendship issues on the playground and act as a mediator when this is needed. They are fully trained to know when they should bring a problem to a teacher’s attention and work hard to make sure everyone is happy on the playground. They enjoy organising friendship clubs, creating assemblies and contributing to pupil welfare surgeries.
In order to ensure we deliver an effective PSHE curriculum, we work hard to:
- Ensure that pupils’ personal development is at the heart of all that we do
- Celebrate diversity in all areas of our society and the protected characteristics
- Support our children to become positive global citizens of the future who are ready to make meaningful contributions to society
- Support pupil’s physical well-being – children will undertake short bursts of daily exercise in addition to statutory PE lessons
- Support pupils’ emotional well-being – ensuring they are happy in our schools. Happy children are more ready to learn!
- Help our pupils become more aware of the world around them – culturally, spiritually and morally
- Encourage pupils to develop resilience and successful learning behaviours – achieving our schools’ motto – ‘be the best that you can be!’
